Abstract
Occlusive disease of the proximal of the vertebral artery represents a risk for posterior-circulation ischemia. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stent placement seems a useful technique for the treatment of vertebro-basilar insufficiency. Severe atherosclerotic vascular disease undergoes vertebral artery stent placement using a balloon expandable stent. We report a case of rapidly progressive bilateral vertebral artery stenoses, in which medical therapy failed to relieve the symptom of the patient and left vertebral artery origin stenosis to be treated by an endovascular stenting. Follow up angiogram at 4 months and 1 year later demonstrated good patency of the vertebral artery. To our knowledge, our case is the first report of the endovascular treatment for rapidly progressive bilateral vertebral artery origin stenoses.
